Having an SSS number and a posted contribution does not immediately guarantee you for SSS benefits or coverage. SS Numbers especially got thru the SSS Website are tagged as “temporary” SS Numbers only and is only valid for paying contributions. You are not allowed to apply an SSS UMID, SSS Benefits or loans unless you request for the status to be changed into “permanent”. How to make temporary SSS Number to permanent in 4 easy steps
1. Bring required documents
The main requirement to make your SS Number permanent is to bring any Identification for SSS to verify your identity and that your SS Number really belongs to you.
Prepare any of the documents below. Before going to the SSS Branch, make a photocopy of your document to save time and energy. They will not get the original copy of your document like your Birth Certificate but they will need to the original copy for validation so bring it with you.
Required documents varies depending on the update request. For changing status from temporary to permanent you just need any of the following;
- Birth Certificate or in its absence, any of the following ID cards and/or documents:
- Baptismal Certificate or its equivalent
- Driver’s License
- Passport
- Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) Card
- Seaman’s Book (Seafarer’s Identification and Record Book)
You can use your voter’s id if you don’t have driver’s license or passport. If you do not have any of the following above, you may bring any two IDs that contain your Full Name, Birthday, Signature, or any proof of identity like Barangay ID, School Record, NBI, etc.
2. Fill-out SSS E-4 form or Member Data Change Request.
The form is available at any SSS branch or you can download the form at the SSS Website or by clicking this Member Data Change Request. The form is for you to update your personal information or correct any discrepancies during E-1 registration.
You may want to include updating your contact info like phone number, email and address, or if you want to update your SSS Membership as Self Employed or OFW or if you just got married and blessed with a child you may include it in accomplishing the SSS Member Data Change Request Form. If you will be declaring your SSS Beneficiaries, also bring a Birth Certificate of your children and Marriage Certificate.
3. Go to the nearest SSS branch
For processing, you need to personally go to your nearest SSS branch with your documents and ask for a number specific to your intended transaction upon entrance. Make sure that the number given to you is designated for member data change request or E-4 counter. It is adviced that you go the SSS Branch early or very late in the afternoon or go to an SSS Branch in malls where there are few people transacting.

4. Submit your documents in the designated SSS Representative
Once you get to the counter, you just need to submit your filled-out form and documents and you’re done.
Changing your number from temporary to permanent makes your SSS benefits and privileges more accessible for you. Make sure that you immediately file “permanency” of your SSS Number once you get yours.
