One benefit of being an SSS member is that, a cash benefit whether a lumpsum or pension is being granted to the qualified beneficiaries of the deceased member. If an SSS Member dies and has atleast 36 months of contribution, his/her surviving spouse shall be entitled for a monthly pension.
However, pension of a surviving spouse may be revoked if he/she remarries or cohabits with a new partner. Cohabitation or living together (live-in) with another person like husband and wife will also stop the SSS pension.
Teresita Cahulao, a beneficiary of her late husband’s death benefits from the SSS, had been receiving P4,000 monthly pension since 1992. She became eligible to receive the pension as the primary beneficiary of her husband who was a member of the SSS and who died in 1990 due to a stroke.
The monthly pension that she was receiving was a huge help to her and her seven children. However, her monthly pension was stopped in 2006.
Teresita said that when she applied for her SSS Pensioner’s ID, she was asked if she already has a new partner, and she admitted that she is seeing someone else. Then she was told that she could no longer receive her monthly pension from SSS for having a new partner.
Before an SSS pension is canceled, SSS conducts series of investigation. Oftentimes, the investigation is triggered by a report or complain of the deceased SSS member’s relatives or neighbors of the pensioner.
If in case that the pensioner stops seeing his/her new partner, the pension will no longer be restored once revoked.

Why did we not qualify in that so called adjustment brought by that period wherein there was descrepancy in the recording of contributions. Our co-teachers were able to avail of this
