President Rodrigo R. Duterte has appointed Aurora Cruz Ignacio as Social Security System (SSS) President and Chief Executive Officer (PCEO) on March 28 but a copy of her appointment paper was released to media on Monday (April 1).
Ignacio is currently the chairperson of the Social Security Commission, the governing body of the state-run pension fund.
She finished Bachelor of Science, major in Commerce, Banking and Finance at the Centro Escolar University.
She replaces her predecessor, Emmanuel Dooc who submitted his resignation letter to the President on March 6 to give the Chief Executive a “freehand” to appoint his successor.
Dooc stepped down at the same time Republic Act 11199 or the Social Security Act of 2018 took effect. His term expired with the new law.
Last month, Malacañang confirmed that the President signed into law the proposed measure which overhauls the SSS and allows it to increase the contribution by 1 percentage point every other year until it becomes 15 percent in 2025. To date, the contribution rate is 11 percent.
