How to Fix No Date of Coverage in my SSS Records?

How to Fix No Date of Coverage in my SSS Records

What is Date of Coverage in my SSS Records?

Your Date of Coverage in your SSS Record indicates the month and year when you are first reported as an active SSS member. Active means the first time you paid your contribution as a Self Employed, OFW, House hold Helper or Non Working Spouse, or the date where your first employer (as Employed) has reported you to SSS. Date of coverage is important because without may delay or disqualify your SSS Benefits claim. Because this is the date of the start of your SSS membership. This date is used in formulas to compute and process your claims. No date of coverage, no computation, no benefit.

Is my Date of Coverage not my Date of Registration in SSS?

No. Your Date of Coverage is the date when you first become an active contributing member in the SSS. Getting an SSS Member doesn’t mean you are already covered and an active SSS member. If you have registered as an SSS Member in January 2017 for example, but been reported by your Employer on June 2018, then your Date of Coverage is June 2018.

Is my SSS Date Coverage automatically reflected in my SSS Record?

Yes and No. Your DATE OF COVERAGE is the Date (Month and Year) set by SSS as the start of your membership. You will automatically have a date of coverage when:

  • FOR COVERED EMPLOYEES
If your first contribution to SSS was as Employee, your Date of Coverage (DOC) is the Month and Year  your first Employer reported you to SSS thru the SSS R1A or in their Contribution Collection List.
  • FOR SELF-EMPLOYED
If your first contribution to SSS was as Self-Employed, your DOC is the Month and Year of your first valid contribution to SSS as Self-Employed. Your first contribution is valid if you registered as Self-Employed using SSS RS-1 Form and this form was approved, stamped and signed by SSS.
  • FOR OFWs
If your first contribution to SSS was as OFW, your DOC is the Month and Year of your first contribution to SSS as OFW. If you were not Employed, Self-Employed or Non-Working Spouse before becoming an OFW, you should first submit to SSS an accomplished SSS OW-1 Form before making your first contribution as OFW.
  • FOR NON-WORKING SPOUSE
If you registered as Non-Working Spouse, your DOC is the Month and Year of your first contribution to SSS as Non-Working Spouse.
  • FOR VOLUNTARY MEMBERS:
If your FIRST contribution to SSS was as Voluntary, your first contribution is INVALID.
The cashier accepted your payment because she did not know it was your first payment to SSS as Voluntary. You must FIRST register and pay as Employed, or Self-Employed, or OFW, or Non-Working Spouse before becoming Voluntary later on.

You will not have an automatic Date of Coverage on your SSS Records when you immediately paid your first SSS Contribution as a voluntary member without applying for a membership status change first.(e.g as a Self Employed, OFW, Non Working Housewife, etc).

How can I check if I have a Date of Coverage?

  • Visit the nearest SSS branch and verify your membership status and Date of Coverage.
  • Login to your SSS Online Account and check if you do have a date of coverage on your SSS Record

If you have a Date of Coverage, it means that you registered with SSS correctly and properly and your SSS Membership is okay! 🙂

What Should I Do If I Find Out I Don’t Have a Date of Coverage?

If you have properly registered as a Self Employed, OFW or Non-Working Spouse before paying your SSS Contribution, go to the SSS Branch and submit your RS1, OW1, NW1 or E4 that signifies your correct membership status registration in SSS. Bring a copy of your valid ID and present your proof in the assigned SSS Representative to correct your SSS records.

If you have not properly registered, accomplish and notarize the Affidavit of Source of Income to signify that you are self-employed and has a source of income, together with the SSS Data Change Form or E-4. After submitting these documents in the SSS Branch nearest you, wait for at least 2 weeks before your data becomes changed. Need not to worry because the SSS Contributions you paid before you have a Date of Coverage will not be invalidated nor refunded.

Here is the Template of the Affidavit of Source of Income that you may download and fill up.
